Gortat and who else in a sign and trade |

if it boiled down to dallas having to make a sign at least it would be with a team that has a few assets. Rafer Hedo and lee are gone . Pietrus will step into
hedo's role they traded for rafer because nelson was hurt and now he's gone again. JJ redick anyone good shooter highly thought of gym rat to keep dirk
company. or should i say one asset and some retreads.

Excuse the ignorance here; folks have tried to splain how Gortat for Bass S&T does not work, but must be some way. Does that
not help both Magic & Mavs use MLE on other players and each get who they want? Mavs: Gortat; Magic: Bass? If we are losing Bass and they are losing
Gortat why not figure it out so each can still use MLE?

The only way to do it is via a third team with capspace that would absorb contracts. Considering the economic circumstances + the fact that everyone wants to
free capspace for 2010, it's almost impossible to get a third team involved.

Bradleys Taller Brother wrote: I thought the same thing, but here's the rub with a Base Year Compensation player, which is what both would be. If you are BYC, you just signed a contract for over a certain percentage raise and both Gortat and Bass will get paid this time...they are coming off rookie contracts. In the trade scenario, they might make X amount, but only 50% of that amount would be considered ont the incoming salary for the team receiving the player, but it would count as the full amount for the team the player was leaving...salary matching is a must within 125% for teams over the cap, so it's nearly impossible...here's the scenario... They'll both basically make the same amount of money...but it's still screwy with the CBA trade rules. Example: Gortat signed for 5 years, 5.6 million Bass signed for 5 years 5.6 million Bass leaving the Mavs, counts as 2.8 million....incoming to Orlando, counts as 5.6 million Gortat leaving the Magic, counts as 2.8 million...incoming to Dallas, counts as 5.6 million It looks like each team is trading for player salaries that are only 50% of the salary that they are sending out...so the trade doesn't work. You need another team with cap space to lay off the extra salary for a pick to make it work.
