Gortat in: Damp in or out? |
Lead | |
|
My question is, "Do you all feel comfortable with Gortat and Hollins, shipping Damp to facilitate a quality 2 signing?" I actually like Hollins, but
behind someone less like himself. I like Marcin but having the big Dampness behind him would be kinda comforting, wouldn't it?

Unless you get a starter at the 2, keep Damp. In fact, you might wanna see what Gortat can do first. It isn't as if Damp is the worse center in the league.

After the Mavs got dumped I didn't watch much of the playoffs, so I really don't know much about Gortat. I do like Damp tho, and he's only got 2
years left on that deal.

I love how the contract "might be more valuable in a year." I cannot see how that's the case. Damp had a pretty good series against the Spurs.
For a team in need of big man depth and/or savings I think it's inconcievable that his value goes beyond what it is today in another year of play. Right
now Damp is an expiring that can still play, and if the mavs can get something good by cashing in on it now they should wait. So as someone else said, depends
on what would come back, but he shouldn't be untouchable because of delusions about the future value of his expiring. Also consider that, though doubtful,
who knows where the economy will be next year, or if the league will start handing out more money to teams.

Also, even if the economy improves it won't matter. The cap is based on what happens the year before. So the cap will go down next year based on what happened this year. |

as i understand it... damp's last year is not guaranteed at all-- that is the only way he could be traded this year. his contract is more valuable next
year because teams can cut him after trading for him (to get rid of salary) without having to pay him.

But he can still play this year. You can still convince teams he has value as a potential passable starter with loads of experience OR as a very good backup C.
With a better center coming into Dallas next year I don't think you'll be able to convince anyone of that next year. All the other trades involved
expiring that could still PLAY or coupled with cheap young guys with potential. The mavs have none of the cheap young guys. I still say his value won't go
any higher next year.

I hope damps gone. I think Gortat will start but Damp is stealing Hollins min .I like Hollins energy. Think we'll be stuck with damp till the trade
deadline though. Don't think they can get anyone to take him now.

It can be argued that Hollins was more effective in the playoffs than Damp during his play time stretches. I really cant substantiate that with numbers either way, but it definitely can be argued. |

ule makes a very good point.
The question might be this: if teams perceive Damp's value as a player is greater than the amount they'd have to pay him next year (which is...?), they'll trade for him this season. By the way, we havent really established this. Is Damp's deal basically a de facto team option (as he wont meet the requirements) that terminates after this season? I have heard recently it is like Stack's where after this year it is only guaranteed for a small amount if he doesnt meet the criteria (say 2.5m/14m)??? Any firm answers? |

The problem is that Hollins is foul-prone, well so does Damp. But the only difference is that Damp is big/heavier to control powerful Centers. Imagine what
Dwight did to our skinny Hollins?
I'm tossed between the idea of keeping or losing Damp. However, if you're going to consider money in the equation, I bet he is better off as a trade chip.

I have not heard of any partial guarantee for Damp's contract next year. I think if there was it would have been discussed by somebody in the know by now
so I'm thinking he's basically in the last year of his contract.
That being said we should absolutely trade him for the right deal. Question is: Will we get a better offer closer to the deadline? |

keep Damp unless you can get a really good sg by adding him to the deal. Sign Bass.
Big bodies that can play are always valuable. If Gortat is the real deal than you have a monster deal that can get you something nice in return.
All those people who complain OR defend the MBT will make or break their arguments based on what we do with Stack.
We MUST get a starter for him...we MUST move him before training camp, and we MUST get a good fitting piece with him. We need a pure shooting 2 or a post scoring 5, and nothing else is gonna do. - Fearless |

Ship Damp and his expiring contract out for something good. Between Dirk, Gortat and Hollins, you have 48 minutes at the C position to go around.

First they need to re-sign Hollins. Then we can talk about Damp's expendability.

He's probably the second biggest guy in the NBA. I've always thought that his play actually altered games off of the box score, as opposed to how that
was often said of Sean. His play on Timmy this post season buys him a pass in my opinion.
