Lead | |

Which ex-Pacer did Carlisle want to join the Mavs? Would Mark love the Cubs or the Mavs more? Read it here.

great guy who loves basketball. im not sure what KB or bron would do in that situation...they might be the better players...but i take the person dirk.

Mav front office position May 2007 on team need to improve the roster: Any fan that thinks we need substantial change
after a 67 win season is a moron.
Mav front office, through its new coach May 2008: "But Carlisle did acknowledge: 'This roster is going to change between now [and camp]. I'm certain of that'." Problem: the guy(s) proven to be a 'moron' about what the roster needs is still in charge of the roster. |

Solution: Avery is gone.........some dinos soon to follow.
It was a simple thing. Take the 67 win team, cut Croshere, Buckner and Ager. Add Bass, Fazekas and RTerry. |
|||
Ricochet |

But Rick Carlisle would be given the nod to get the players he needs.. wouldn't he? So unlike Avery's signings, this is gonna be different.
At least the only old guy RC could hire should be a former Pacer. |

I cant believe nobody picked up on...
a) Carlisle called reggie Miller and asked him to play here (Was that a joke? It wasnt clear) b) Stein said we are looking at S and Ts for Marion or Josh Smith |

What caught my attention in this article is in bold. Other than the reference to Reggie Miller. .

You can tell just be reading the quotes from Dirk that he and probably the rest of the team were beaten down by Avery's style of coaching and the
dicatorship he tried to run in the mavs organization
|

From the spin we are putting on AJ now he apparently was way too successful in dictating every personnel and style of play made in the last four years. From
the reports made by Donnie and Mark, he pretty much got everything he wanted while he was here. Strange way for a front office to treat a rookie coach with no
experience at being either a scout, personnel man or gm.
He was a dictator, apparently, and got way more power than he had the ability to put to good use in the non-coaching areas. |

The Avery crap is a cover, Rings, for Mark Cuban's mistakes. The Triangle is a cover for Mark Cuban's mistakes. It works perfectly. Cuban gets off
relatively blame free--the only people, sorry, morons, who question him get hammered. Donnie trots out the old line Mav personnel who tell stories on the
scapegoat of the triangle to deflect criticism from him.
Remember, Fisher said that there would be a meeting where decisions like JuHoward instead of Faz would be questioned. That meeting never had to happen, because Donnie did such a great job of making sure that he had covered his ass so adeptly long before that meeting ever happened (and I doubt ever did, afterall, it was a foregone conclusion). Genius is to have all the authority that an owner and GM have and then to bring in a fall guy for when it won't work. Here's a business lesson: if three people make decisions and two of the three can fire the other one's sorry little ass, then the third should not agree to be part of the decision making process. It's Avery's fault--for not understand this cutthroat aspect of this organization. "How does it work again." "We all make decisions together." "Really, I get to be an integral part of the personnel?" "You bet." "Great. I'm in." Forgot to ask. "And when those decisions are exposed as mistakes, can I fire you?" "Ha! No way. I can fire you. That guy over there who never speaks. He can fire you. Oh and going out, you can't say anything that promotes yourself or my boy Mike Fisher will hammer you." Its always important to know who fires who. In this case...The buck stops over there.
Three things:
1. Dallas has been blown out of the first round twice by second round losers. 2. Hope like hell. Tweak like hell. "Best roster ever." Our three can lose to your three. 3. This team goes as far as Dirk takes them. |

Interestingly Coach will travel to Germany and work with him (and Holger I guess). This sounds so much better than Avery who didn't sound like he
appreciated Holgers work.

We finally have a coach who knows how to coach. |

This is where we've gotten? Because Avery didn't go to the boy band producer, he's a bad coach? Really? Is that what we were saying two and three
years ago. "This team will step it up when Avery goes to Germany to work with Dirk and Holger." Did we really think that?
And if you didn't say it, you didn't think it. And you didn't say it. But it makes you feel good now to act like you thought it then. (And it's a really, really stupid premise that the team will improve because a coach goes to Germany)

Nope.
(And Avery had to be fired. I get that. In fact my "Avery's fired if" (Dallas doesn't get out of the first round) weeks poll before the playoffs began was ridiculed by Mike on the HOME page). Had to go. Now let him go.

I also believe Avery fully understood the implications, but found the gain in power worth the potential risk.
Pretty sure the Reggie Miller call was a joke btw. |

Avery is no martyr and no matter how much you try he never will be one.
I could get paid millions of dollars to lose in the first round too.

establish a positive working relationship. Rick wants to understand Dirk's game, and how he prepares in the offseason, and he'll probably have a
things to work on with Dirk in addition to Holger's tweaking. From the sound of it, he plans on doing the same thing with Josh and others.
How will this not help improve the team?

So, our team shrink is back. Good.
But, after he gets finished working on the committee, do you think he'll have enough time left to help the players some?
