1. You can continue to talk to all the other free agents during that 7-day window, if you like. There is nothing that precludes a team from asking a desired free agent to wait just in case, or to make verbal backup offers.

I believe this means if the Mavs do make an offer, the Jazz get 7 days to match. So if the Mavs were to make Miles their number 1 priority, offer on the first day of free agency, then the Mavs would have whatever chunk of the MLE they're using tied up until the Jazz match. I'd rather throw the money at young guards with potential (Miles, Childress, Vujacic, Azuibuike) than to get another solid contributor of the bench.

And given our track record with "battle-tested veterans", this is a no-brainer.
